Make Some Space: Tuning Into Total Refreshment Centre

Friend of Heavenly and Caught by the River Emma Warren has written a book chronicling the history of the late Hackney music venue Total Refreshment Centre.

In recent years establishing itself as the home of London Jazz and nurturing a vibrant and internationally renowned scene of young musicians, including Shabaka Hutchings, Nubya Garcia and Ezra Collective, before its unfortunate closure last year.

Its legacy lives on however and the impact it has had will no doubt continue to ripple for years to come.

Emma’s book, titled Make Some Space: Tuning Into Total Refreshment Centre, delves into the buildings past as an Edwardian Confectionary Factory and follows through until now, telling the story of a community coming together in a rapidly changing part of the city.

You can find out more about the book and pre-order a copy (due April 14th) here.
