The man who made British indie music Heavenly again….

Jeff Barrett

Ahead of Port Eliot festival at the end of this month, The Cornish Guardian have interviewed Caught by the River and Heavenly founder Jeff Barrett.

With anecdotes about his time at a local Plymouth record shop, putting on shows with the likes of The Jesus &  Mary Chain and Primal Scream and the excitement building up to this years Port Eliot festival; it’s a great read.

Head over the The Cornish Guardian’s website and read here.

This year at Port Eliot, Caught by the River have a broad range of artists, speakers & guests gracing their stage including Heavenly bands Stealing Sheep, Gwenno & Hooton Tennis Club.

Heavenly 25 at The Kazimier playlist by Bernie Connor

Last Sunday was our 25th anniversary party at The Kazimier in Liverpool, with great performances from Stealing Sheep, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, The Wytches, Hooton Tennis Club, The Voyeurs, Kid Wave, Duke Garwood and Gwenno.

But perhaps equally important for keeping the party going were the tunes played between the bands, and that duty was handled magnificently by Liverpool legend Bernie Connor. See below for some of his picks for the evening:

  1. The Pretty Things ‘Defecting Grey’
  2. The Soundcarriers ‘This Is Normal’
  3. Funkadelic ‘I Wanna Know If It’s Good To You’
  4. Youth Lagoon ‘Raspberry Cane’
  5. Tommy James and The Shondells ‘Crimson & Clover’
  6. Thee Oh Sees ‘Web’
  7. King Tubby/The Revolutionaries ‘Girl A Love You Version’
  8. The Smoke ‘My Friend Jack’
  9. The Floormen ‘Virracocha’
  10. Four Tops ‘Reach Out (I’ll Be There)’

‘The Deep Hum’ – May Listings

The Bohicas

We have had a fantastic month hosting The Bohicas residency at The Social for the ‘Deep Hum’ in the last month.

Wednesday is the final night of the residency with Hyena in support. The previous three nights have SOLD OUT so we highly recommend grabbing a ticket to see them.

A big thanks to Domino Records for being brilliant DJ’s in the basement as well as Crushed Beaks, Saint Agnes & Eugene Mcguinness for their opening slots.

Were back in April with a whole host of new artists to get excited about. We have our latest Heavenly signing Gwenno plus Tender Prey, Big Sister, Rosa Brooks & Truism.

Next week ‘The Deep Hum’ is teaming up with the Sound of Music presenting The Floorman live with DJ’s Bernie Connor and Richard Norris on the decks.

Check out the ‘The Deep Hum’ Facebook page for all updates here.

We also made a tasty playlist featuring a roundup of 2015 acts including Best Friends, Secret Fix, Ex’s, Blueprint Blue and many more.

Bunkered down in the very centre of the city, absorbed in a basement of concrete, The Deep Hum At The Heart Of It All will resonate every week with the emerging sounds of some of the best new bands around.
